MS Hortensia Cadenas has defently impacted my life but also the life of hundreds of other people who have come through the Early Identification program as students. The program started in 1987 how ever she has been the director of the program since 1989 or 1990, I can’t really recall correctly. Ms Cadenas came from Cuba some time in her youth and when she came to the United States one of the first goals she set for her self was to get a better education. She did get a degree from George Mason Unversity, again I can no recall the details. Since she became the director of EIP she has worked extremely hard so that every student that goes through EIP learns the importance of education beyond college. She has helped me and countless other by recommending us for scholarships. She is always meeting with people to try and get fundings to make EIP even better. The best thing about her is that she is never to busy to come and talk to you. When ever I see her she will greet me with the biggest smile and big hug. She is always interested in how I am doing at school. When I first started college she make sure I did not take to o many hard classes. Like I said before she is like a second mother to me. She is always willing to listen and help in anyway she can. Recently she got and award from George Mason, I think for being the best director of a program. She truly has done wonders with EIP and with the students. She is the kind of person who is very passionate about her job and just loves helping people.
